Day 1: Fly to Singapore
Fly to Singapore. (N)
Days 2-3: Singapore
Arrive in Singapore and transfer to Hotel for a 2-night stay. The following day is at leisure to explore Singapore, an easy city to navigate with an interesting colonial history, excellent restaurants and a variety of museums. (N)
Days 4-5: Board the Silver Discoverer
Today you will board Silver Discoverer and begin cruising north along the coast of Malaysia, passing the port town of Malacca. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Sumatra, Indonesia
Arrive into Belawan, a busy port on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and the gateway to Gunung Leuser National Park. Gunung Leuser is one of Indonesia's oldest parks and part of the 'Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra' Unesco World Heritage site. Visit the Bukit Lawang Visitor Centre to learn about the flora and fauna of the park, which includes more than 120 species of mammals, 190 species of reptiles and amphibians and 350 species of bird. Afterwards, begin a jungle walk through the park to search for orang utans that were released in the area years ago by the Bohorok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and are now living wild. Eight other primate species are also present in the park. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Ko Tarutao Marine Park, Thailand
Continue north into coastal Thailand and visit the island of Ko Rawi in the Ko Tarutao Marine Park, which offers excellent snorkelling over hard coral sheltering anemones, giant clams and tropical fish. (B, L, D)
Day 8: Kawthaung, Burma (Myanmar)
Once Silver Discoverer has been cleared into Burma, you will visit the border town of Kawthaung, formerly known as Victoria Point, which has a strong Muslim and Indian influence and a Buddhist monastery on top of the hill to the north of the town. The monastery has impressive guardian dragon statues and superb views of Kawthaung. (B, L, D)
Days 9-12: Mergui archipelago, Burma
Begin cruising into the Mergui archipelago, which encompasses over 800 islands off the south-west coast of Burma in the Andaman Sea. Some islands are uninhabited rocky outcrops, while others cover hundreds of square kilometres. Many islands have a thick rainforest covering and coastlines featuring granite headlands, mangroves and some stunning, deserted beaches. The shores are protected by pristine coral reefs, sheltering a diverse range of marine species and relatively intact eco-systems. The archipelago is home to the sea-dwelling Moken (or Mawken), a minority ethnic group often referred to as the 'sea gypsies'. Highlights of your time in the archipelago include snorkelling over coral reefs, birdwatching and hiking on remote islands. On the evening of day 12 the ship will leave the Mergui archipelago and return to Thailand, cruising overnight through the Surin islands in the Andaman Sea. (B, L, D)
Day 13: Phuket, Thailand
Arrive back at the harbour in Phuket, where you will be met and taken to the Resort for an overnight stay. (B, L, D)
Day 14: Depar Home via Bangkok
Fly back home via Bangkok. (B)
