ITINERARY - 13 DAYS
Day 1:Delhi
Arrive in Delhi and check in at hotel .
Day 2:Delhi
A full-day tour of both Old and New Delhi to experience the living contrasts between traditional splendour and modern energy. In New Delhi, you will see India Gate, the Parliament House and palatial government buildings, Humayun's Tomb and the towering Qutub Minar with a historic Iron Pillar that has survived the ravages of time for over 1500 years. You will also visit modern day landmarks of the city, its new shopping arcades. In Old Delhi, you can pay your respects at the final resting place of Mahatma Gandhi, the Raj Ghat, see the imposing Red Fort built by the creator of the Taj Mahal, visit lndia's largest mosque, the Jama Masjid, with its black and white onion domes, minarets and white marble, and take a cycle rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, the bustling old bazaar (market) where you will see age-old modes of transport like bullock carts still on the streets.
Day 3:Delhi to Jaipur
After breakfast, when you drive to the Pink City of Jaipur, you will have an opportunity to see India's lively countryside en route. Rest for the day in Jaipur, to explore it at your leisure.
Day 4:Jaipur
Morning excursion to the Amber Fort, with its old Rajput palace overlooking a beautiful lake. Follow an old tradition and ride up to Amber Fort on an elephant. Visit the glowing Jag Mandir (Hall of Victory). In the afternoon, wander around the old 'Pink City', and visit the City Palace where many a royal treasure is preserved, including the world's largest silver vessels. Then, experience the unique Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) and witness the wonder of a I7th Century observatory with its 28 m high sundial.
Day 5:Jaipur to Agra
Drive to Agra, with a stopover to discover the deserted capital city of Fatehpur Sikri, and ponder on why this beautifully preserved capital was dramatically abandoned a few years after it was built.
Day 6:Agra
Agra. It is here you will come face to face with one of the seven wonders of the world, India's most perfect architectural creation, the monument of eternal love, the Taj Mahal. Behold its magnificent structure, observe its intricate detailing and craftsmanship, and gaze in awe as you linger on beautifully landscaped gardens. Then, proceed on to the impressive Agra Fort and allow yourself to be led through a multitude of chambers in this regal residence. As you drive through the city you will also get a taste of the local life and bazaars, and the hustle bustle of everyday India.
Day 7:Agra to Khajuraho
Transfer to the airport in Agra to take a flight to Khajuraho, where you will discover a quiet little village with 1000 year old temples that are living testimony to the brilliance of Indo-Aryan architecture. Built by the Chandela dynasty, these temples are liberally embellished with artistic stonework, prominent among which are the erotic sculptures that portray heavenly pleasures on earth.
Day 8:Khajuraho to Varanasi
From Khajuraho, fly to Varanasi, the Eternal City on the banks of the holy River Ganges. Considered to be among the most ancient cities of the world, Varanasi has been a centre of learning and civilisation for over 2000 years. Today, it is still one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India, and also a major tourist attraction. From Varanasi, you can visit Sarnath where Buddha gave his first discourse after attaining enlightenment.
Day 9:Varanasi to Kathmandu,Nepal
Start the day with a boat ride on the River Ganges at sunrise. See the faithful cleanse themselves of their sins in this, the holiest of rivers. Spend the rest of the morning at leisure, wandering through the fascinating lanes and by-lanes of Varanasi. After your tour of Varanasi, transfer to the airport for a short, but beautiful flight over the Himalayas, into the Kathmandu valley.
Day 10:Kathmandu
An ancient little Hindu Kingdom nestling in the lap of the magnificent Himalayan ranges, Nepal is a land of endless fascination. Today, Kathmandu is an amazing amalgam of Hindu and Buddhist traditions and modern vibrancy. You will visit the temple of the Living Goddess, Kasthamandap and the Pagoda Temple, among others and tour the 2000 year old stupa of the Swayambhunath temple with one of the oldest Buddhist Chaityas. In the afternoon, a special trip to the ancient city of Patan, the City of Artists awaits you, followed by a visit to the Tibetan Refugee Camp from where you can carry back some great souvenirs, traditional masks, prayer wheels or even a handmade Tibetan rug. And after all this, you could actually spend the evening gambling at a casino!
Day 11:Kathmandu
Start with an unforgettable morning flight over the Himalayas, viewing one magnificent peak after another, till you are up close with the mighty Mt. Everest. When you land back on earth, take a journey to the ancient temples of Pashupatinath, Bodhnath and Bhadgaon, with the Palace of Fifty-Five Windows and the five-storied Nyatapola Pagoda.
Day 12:Kathmandu to Delhi
After breakfast, transfer to the airport where you will board your flight for Delhi. Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and recall your memorable journey, or wander around for a last look and feel of Delhi.
Day 13:Delhi
Transfer to the international airport for your departure flight from where you will carry your beautiful memories home.
