Day 1: Fly to Tokyo

Overnight flight to Tokyo Haneda airport. (N)

Day 2: Tokyo

Arrive and transfer to the Hotel for 3 nights. (N)

Day 3: Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park

Full-day excursion to the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park for views of Mount Fuji, a cruise on Lake Ashi and a ride on the Mount Komagatake Ropeway (cable car). (B, L)

Day 4: Tokyo

Full-day tour visiting Asakusa Kannon temple, Tokyo National Museum, the Imperial East Garden and the peaceful Meiji shrine. Lunch will be a Kushage meal of fried meat and vegetables. (B,L)

Day 5: Kanazawa

Morning departure by Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kanazawa. Visit Kanazawa castle and the Kenroku-en garden. Stay 2 nights at the Hotel. (B, L)

Day 6: Kanazawa • Shirakawago

Visit the Omi fresh food market then stroll in the Higashi-Chayamachi district, home to various traditional buildings, before stopping at a workshop to observe the kinpaku process of gold leaf production. Afternoon excursion to Shirakawago to see the Unesco-listed gasshozukuri houses and their unique architectural style. (B)

Day 7: Kyoto

Travel by bullet train to Kyoto. Visit Nijo castle and experience a traditional tea ceremony in a machiya (wooden townhouse). Stay 3 nights at the Hotel . (B, L)

Days 8-9: Kyoto • Nara

Morning visit to Ryoanji temple, famous for its zen rock garden, and the Kinkakuji temple (Golden Pavilion). Afternoon tour of the historic city of Nara. Return to Kyoto. Optional evening excursion to walk in the Gion geisha district. The following day is at leisure. (B)

Day 10: Hiroshima

Morning departure to Hiroshima by train. Visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park where a short talk by a bomb attack survivor, or one of their relatives, has been arranged (subject to local conditions). Overnight at the Hotel. (B, L)

Day 11: Miyajima island • Tokyo

Take the ferry over to Miyajima island and visit the Itsukushima shrine and the Torii gate. Return to the mainland and take the train back to Tokyo. Overnight at the Hotel. (B)

Day 12: Depart Home
Transfer to Haneda airport for the flight back home. (B)​
