Itinerary-17 Days
Day 1: Fly to Kugluktuk (Coppermine)
Make your way to Edmonton airport for the charter flight to Kugluktuk. On arrival, transfer to the port and board the Ocean Endeavour for a 16-night cruise. (D)
Days 2-3: Ikaluktutiak (Cambridge Bay) • Queen Maud Gulf
Travel to Victoria Island, the world’s eighth largest island. The community of Cambridge Bay has a population of just over 1,000. Look out for Ahiak caribou, bald eagles, grizzly bears and musk ox as you pass through the gulf. (B, L, D)
Days 4: Gjoa Haven
Stop at the harbour where explorer Roald Amundsen and his crew wintered in 1903. (B, L, D)
Days 5-7: Peel Sound • Perry Channel
Travel north up Peel Sound into polar bear country, where there is a good chance of spotting these majestic mammals. Several stops will be made, providing opportunities to hike and explore the spectacular landscapes. (B, L, D
Days 8-9: Lancaster Sound
The waters of the sound are full of marine mammals; look out for beluga whales and walruses. Significant in the history of Arctic exploration, Beechey Island is home to the graves of three of Sir John Franklin’s crew that died during the ill-fated voyage of 1845. (B, L, D)
Day 10: Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet)
Spend time in this Arctic community, an opportunity to learn about the local culture. Afterwards, cruise through the beautiful Milne Inlet and keep an eye out for the elusive narwhal. (B, L, D)
Days 11-14: Northeast Baffin fjords
Explore the fjords as the ship’s shallow draft and manoeuvrability allow her to explore areas that would be inaccessible for larger ships. Staff will be on deck to help point out for wildlife and interpret the expansive landscapes. (B, L, D
Day 15: Ilulissat
Spend some time in this coastal town and travel by Zodiac into the Ilulissat Icefjord. This Unesco world heritage site is home to Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, the fastest moving in the world. (B, L, D)
Day 16: Itilleq Fjord
Cruise past the complex waterways, many islands and small fishing communities of Greenland’s west coast. Take an expedition ashore to explore the Greenlandic landscape. (B, L, D)
Day 17: Kangerlussuaq • Fly to Toronto
Disembark in the settlement of Kangerlussuaq and transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Toronto. (B)
